The annual program was again a success providing over 100 backpacks filled with brand new school supplies. The supplies were purchased through funds raised by youth activities and fundraisers held during the year.
When the yearly summer feeding program at Evergreen Manors was cut due to the lack of funding, the Society's Youth Ministry decided to become the main sponsor and continue the program. Along with the Assumption Chapel Food Pantry and the Altoona Soup Kitchen, hundreds of meals were served to school age children all summer long.
The Johnstown Thrift Store placed four clothing and shoe pick-up containers at area churches in Johnstown. The containers are located at St. Andrew, St. Benedict, St. Clement, and Our Mother of Sorrow churches. This is part of an ongoing effort to obtain high quality clothing and shoes for resale in the store. The store plans to place additional containers at other local churches in the near future.
The Monastery Community Gardens presents a hands-on workshop conducted by Dave Crowley, October 21, 2017 at 10:30 AM. Dave will review several types of garlic and how to prepare, plant, care for, and harvest the bulbs. Participants will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty by planting the garlic for the Monastery Community Gardens.
