"I needed clothes and
you clothed me" Faithful, loyal, servant volunteers give of their time to sort, clean, price, repair, display and sell donated clothing, household goods, books, appliances, furniture, fixtures and many, many more items… These items may be used, new, antique or vintage but all the proceeds from their sale are used to help our brothers and sisters in need. The public is welcomed and encouraged to shop at one of the six Thrift Stores of SVDP. Also, come and shop at Johnstown's specialty shops, Duck-In Boutique, Colonial Center and the Vintage Shop, or Altoona's Specialty shops The Garage and the Bric-Brac Room. Items that cannot be sold are recycled, bundled and sent to the missions. Other items have been uniquely refurbished or refitted to, for example, provide prosthesis, dentures or glasses. Although the items are priced in order to meet anyone's pocket book there are many individuals who cannot afford them. Operation TOUCH in Johnstown or the local conferences will provide those individuals with a voucher that can be redeemed for three complete outfits. To address larger needs, a Home Visitor will go to the home of a needy person make an assessment and then authorize assistance to supply furniture, appliances or other large household items. SVDP receives NO government, United Way or Diocesan funding, therefore your donations and the sale of merchandise offsets over 50 percent of the costs to support individual needs and the other ministries. SVDP is family and will be there to help you, your relatives and your friends. SVDP prays for those in need and shows concern and compassion for all they meet. The volunteers are great people, considerate and ready to take the time to help in the selection of the items one needs. Thrift store locations and hours click here Specialty
