Healing through love, preserving the dignity of the sick, poor and homeless by providing free basic medical care
A young man walked up to the Mission of Mercy medical van. He did not feel well. Since he was out of work, he could not afford to see a doctor or pay for medical insurance. The volunteer nurse and doctor took his medical history, performed an examination and ordered testing. It was soon discovered that he was a diabetic and in dire need of insulin. Mission of Mercy followed up with the young man to instruct him on proper diet, exercise and administration of the insulin. Soon he was feeling well enough to look for work and secure a job. Mission of Mercy provides free basic medical care for individuals who have chronic conditions and do not have a primary physician. Mission of Mercy will be the health care provider for the individual and family who cannot afford a physician. In addition, Mission of Mercy will negotiate with prescription companies and medical supply companies to obtain medicine and prescriptions for those in need. The Mission of Mercy medical van travels twice a month to Barnesboro and Ebensburg. Skilled volunteers with experience in the medical field are needed especially doctors and nurses who are willing to give of their time. The economic condition of this area has resulted in an increase of high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic depression among young adults. Mission of Mercy wants to reach out to those individuals, stabilize them by addressing their medical conditions so they can feel better and regain the strength and energy to become productive, healthy individuals.
