The Society everywhere engages in recruiting members and in developing new Conferences. The policy of the Society is one of deliberately seeking to offer opportunities for active Vincentian service and membership to Catholic lay persons.

Belong to the Catholic Church
Accept the Basic Principles or Charter of the Society
Be accepted as an active member by a Conference or Council and be enrolled in a SVDP unit
Take part in the life of the SVDP unit to which the member is attached.

Associate member are those who accept the Society's basic principles but do not participate fully the life of the Conference or Council which has enrolled them.

Contributing member is the designation applicable to one who regularly or in a substantial way provides financial support but who does not engage directly in the work of the Society.
