"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat"
(Matthew 26:35 NIV)

Food for Families is a food warehouse that supplies about 2 million pounds of food to area pantries and other charities.

Food for Families was developed to supply food to the food pantries and other charities in the Altoona/Johnstown Diocese. The volunteers of Food for Families sort, pack and distribute the food from the warehouse which is located at 945 Franklin Street. In addition, the volunteers keep the warehouse well-organized and stocked with food products that range from canned goods, to frozen turkeys, cheese, condiments, vegetables, fruits, boxed foods and wonderful pastries.

Area pantries come to the warehouse weekly in order to stock their shelves to meet the needs of the area needy. The pantries are able to buy their food products for a small overhead cost of 14 cents a pound. Food for Families negotiates the best price for items from wholesalers, USDA government supplements and Second Harvest.

Local food contributions are always needed and food drives are greatly encouraged.
