SVDP Emergency
Financial Aid Program The needs of each individual are unique and varied. The father who just lost his job did not know where to turn when he was out of insulin. SVDP not only helped this man to get a supply of insulin but also determined that he was eligible for assistance through the Department of Public Welfare. Operation SVDP provides crisis-oriented help for those in need but looks for long-term solutions until the individual can get help themselves. Our Emergency Financial Aid Program is located at DePaul Caring Ministries 927 Franklin St and has provided individual assistance with monthly food vouchers to local pantries, home furnishings, utility terminations, eviction situations, medical prescriptions, dental emergencies, eyeglasses, mattresses/box springs, baby formula and diapers and bus transportation under certain circumstances. Our trained volunteers complete a simple application form about the family in need. The form asks for information on the family's make up, income and expense as well as a description of their need. Since there is a limit to the amount of assistance provided by SVDP, the client may be given a referral to seek additional support from other area social service agencies. Most of the clients that seek the support of SVDP are those who are not eligible for government assistance and need short term help with prescriptions, eyeglasses and utility termination. SVDP does not receive government, United Way or Diocesan funding. Its support is received through the Thrift store and donations of individuals. For information about:
